Welcome Aboard!

Welcome aboard the William D. Evans sternwheeler, named after the founder of Evans Hotels and one of the pioneers of Mission Bay resort development. After his death in 1984, the Evans family commissioned the vessel as a tribute to his legacy. It was custom-designed and built in San Diego, then launched into Mission Bay in 1986.

What Makes it Unique

The William D. Evans was designed to recreate the elegance of an 1860s riverboat and includes:

  • A massive paddlewheel at the stern

  • Hand-carved mahogany woodwork

  • Pressed tin ceilings

  • Stained-glass ceiling panels

  • Brass and copper accents

  • Multiple decks with indoor and outdoor viewing areas

  • Grand staircases and Victorian-style décor
